Detecting hearing issues in young children may not always be immediately apparent, and their ability to hear may seem to fluctuate based on their surroundings.

Pediatric audiology offers a comprehensive, family-oriented, and seamlessly integrated service encompassing screening, diagnosis, and rehabilitation for babies and children experiencing hearing difficulties. Typically, hearing screening is conducted for all or most infants shortly after birth, contingent upon individual circumstances, in order to promptly identify and support children with hearing impairments.

At Rainbow Children's Hospitals, our initial step involves assessing a child's hearing through a specialized test designed for children. Once any hearing impairments are diagnosed, we develop a personalized plan to either restore or manage the hearing loss, thereby supporting the child's development. If necessary, we may refer the child to an Ear, Nose, and Throat (ENT) specialist for surgical intervention to address the hearing loss. Alternatively, we employ a combination of hearing aids and therapeutic strategies to address auditory processing difficulties, with the aim of improving the child's speech, language skills, communication abilities, social interactions, and overall self-confidence.
