An alumnus of the prestigious Andhra Medical College, he completed his MCh in Pediatric Surgery from Osmania Medical College in 2001, followed by a two-year Senior Residency at PGIMER, Chandigarh. He later established and led the Department of Pediatric Surgery in Jalandhar before returning to Visakhapatnam.
A pioneer in minimally invasive pediatric surgery, Dr. Mukkavilli Srinivasa Rao became the first surgeon to successfully perform laparoscopic (keyhole) surgery on a one-day-old newborn in Visakhapatnam in 2014.
