Dr. Seema Thakur ,MS( obs and gyne) , DM (medical genetics) is working in Rainbow Children Hospital, Delhi as Senior Consultant, Genetic and Fetal Medicine. She has 23 years of experience in the field of genetic counselling and prenatal diagnosis. Her main contribution is in n the prevention of common and rare genetic disorders through prenatal screening, diagnosis and genetic counseling like down syndrome, thalassemia , sickle cell anemia, hemophilia, fragile X syndrome, ichthyosis etc. In addition her focus is also on prevention of still birth through fetal autopsy and genetic counseling. She has counselled about 50 thousand patients referred to her with various common and rare genetic disorders. She is among the pioneers in establishing the field of clinical genetics in India. She is currently Vice President, of DGF(Dwarka). In the past she has hold various prestigious positions like chairperson of AOGD (Genetic and Fetal medicine subcommittee (2021-23). She is involved in academics and is a very good teacher . She has about 30 conferences on genetics and fetal diagnosis. She has been recognized for her contribution in the field of science and research by Apollo education and research foundation and has been awarded title of “Professor” . She has about 70 research publications in various national and international journal including publication in Nature genetics.
She has been involved in a lot of public health work and philanthropic activities. She has been credited with taking genetics to all walks of life
