Rainbow has a busy surgical unit run by Dr. V.V.S.S. Chandra Shekharam and Dr. Harish Jayram. The unit operates upon more than 1,500 children and newborns annually with excellent success and safety records.

The department gets referrals of surgical cases from all over Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra, West Bengal, Orrisa, Karnataka & Madhya Pradesh.

The unit deals with complex surgical problems like diaphragmatic hernias, tracheo- esophageal fistulas, atresias of intestines, urogenital malformations, ano-rectal malformations, trauma and burns cases.

Dr. Chandra Shekharam has special interest in Pediatric Urology and has numerous international publications to his credit. He also specializes in pediatric and neonatal bronchoscopies, having successfully performed bronchoscopies even in preterm neonates. He has performed the largest number of primary cystoscopic fulgurations of posterior urethral valves in newborn babies (more than 100) in the state of Andhra Pradesh. He is an expert in the management of children with urinary and fecal incontinence. Dr Chandrasekharam also has expertise in Pediatric Laparoscopic surgery & is the only surgeon in the state of Andhra Pradesh performing complex Thoracoscopic surgeries in children.

Dr. Harish is trained in pediatric Surgery from Nation’s premium institute and performs all complex surgical procedures and pediatric bronchoscopies at ease.

Children requiring cosmetic and plastic surgery are taken care of by Dr.Sumeeta Shankar, highly qualified and experienced plastic surgeon.

The department of surgery is covered round the clock (24x7) by expert team of AXON group of Anaesthesiology and post operative care is taken care of, in state of the art Pediatric Intensive Care Unit and Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.

The Lead anesthetist Dr.Subrahmanyam has extensive experience overseas (UK and USA). He has a special interest in analgesia and epidurals.
