Our Vision... Better health for Children
Rainbow has setup a benchmark in Pediatric and Neonatal Intensive care service in the state and has become synonymous with quality health care. It has redefined the survival rates in premature babies and saved sicker and critically ill neonates and pediatric patients. Al the new modalities of ventilation including High Frequency Oscillation, inhaled nitric oxide therapy are now accessible to children in AP. We have established a Neonatal and Emergency Transport Service and saved lot of sick children from distant places. We have the largest series of patient who were treated with HFOV & inhaled nitric oxide in the country. 
Why Rainbow at Vijayawada ?
There is increasing awareness about high end intensive care service & improvement in survival of newborn and sick children. Unfortunately Vijayawada and surrounding districts do not have access to such intensive care facilities. Why should the sick neonates and critically ill pediatric patients of Vijayawada be denied of such facilities? Because of the distance the intensive care facilities at Hyderabad could not be availed by children in Vijayawada and surrounding districts.
Rainbow has therefore established a Tertiary referral centre in Vijayawada. Rainbow team has always believed in teamwork. Over last 8 years our team has grown bigger, stronger and more experienced. As a result of big team we are able to provide this service in Vijayawada. We have recently (September 2007) started a Children Superspeciality hospital so that newborns and children from this area have access to advanced intensive care. The Intensivist / Neonatologist will be posted in Vijayawada and directly supervising, monitoring and providing care.
Neonatal intensive care
The Level III Neonatal intensive Care unit at Vijayawada is 18 bed unit with capacity to ventilate 6 babies at a time. The unit has state of the art infrastructure and facilities. It has latest Giraffe incubators and advanced monitoring system. All the newer modalities of ventilation and bubble CPAP are available. It also has facilities for High Frequency Oscillatory Ventilation and inhaled Nitric oxide therapy.
The ICU has round the clock intensivist and neonatologist cover.
Pediatric ICU
The unit has 4 Level III PICU and 4 HDU beds with capacity to ventilate 4 babies at a time. The state of the art unit has advanced monitoring system and ventilation facilities. It has round the clock Pediatric intensivist cover. The unit also benefits from services of pediatric subspecialist in children with complex problem. It has facilities to manage children with trauma and burn. It has facilities for peritoneal dialysis.
Rainbow team has established better survival in children with ARDS by using HFOV. Also the sickest children with severe respiratory distress, dengue fever, septic shock, poisoning, accidents, head injury have been saved. Similar standards are maintained in Vijayawada.
Emergency Transport Service
The Emergency Transport service at Hyderabad is the largest emergency transport service in Pediatric health care in our country. We have transported more than 1000 newborn and sick children with excellent survival rate.
We are establishing an advanced Emergency Transport service which will cover a distance of 200 km radius from Vijayawada. We have state of art ambulance which is able to provide ICU service on road. The NETS will have Globe trotter which keeps baby warm and at the same time Ventilate baby.
Children’s Super Speciality Clinics
Rainbow is the only pediatric hospital in our state to have all trained pediatric sub specialist under one roof.
The Pediatric subspecialists will have weekly clinics at our centre in Vijayawada. Following subspecialist services will be available weekly and patients can be seen with prior appointments.
Pediatric Gastroenterology and Liver disease
Dr. Ramesh Kancharla is the chief of Paediatric Gastro enterology and hepatology unit at Rainbow. He has extensive overseas training background in pediatric gastroenterology and hepatology in Hospitals of international repute like King's College Hospital, London and Great Ormand Street Children's Hospital, London. He is instrumental in the success of Pediatric Liver transplantation programme in Hyderabad. ( 2nd and 4th Wednesday of every month)
Pediatric Hemato-oncology
Dr. Ramana Dandamudi was trained in paediatric hematology and oncology for 10 years in Dublin, Ireland and Manchester in UK. He is being practicing paediatric hematology in Rainbow Children's Hospital for past 8 years. Dr. Ramana is highly experienced in his profession and dedicated doctor. He is very kind and sympathetic professional. (1st and 3rd Thursday of every month)
Dr Sirisha, after completing her MD( Pediatrics) from PGI she has undergone further training in pediatric hematology and Oncology in India and UK for 3 years. She has worked in prestigious units like Great Ormond Street, London, UK and has joined Rainbow team as a Consultant now. (1st and 3rd Thursday of every month)
Pediatric Nephrology
Dr. Mehul A. Shah, an American board certified Pediatric Nephrologist from Medical University at Dallas, Texas, USA and is one of the handful pediatric nephrologist in India and the only one in the state of Andhra Pradesh. He is meticulous, methodical and thorough and an asset for our institution. He managed lot of children with complex nephrology problems and is liked by all pediatricians. (2nd and 4th Thursday of every month)
Pediatric Neurology
Dr. Lokesh is the only trained Pediatric Neurologist in our state. After completing MD( pediatrics) from PGI he has completed DM( Neonatology) from NIMHANS( Bangalore).
He did further training for 4 years in Pediatric Neurology in UK and completed his MRCPCH. He has recently joined as Consultant Pediatric Neurologist at rainbow. He will be a great asset to all pediatricians in managing children with complex neurological problems and seizure disorder. (2nd and 4th Friday of every month)
Pediatric Pulmonology
Dr Aparna has done Fellowship in Pediatric Pulmonology from National University Hospital, Singapore under the guidance of Prof. Daniel Goh. She runs Asthma clinic at Rainbow. She has established Pulmonary function tests, flexible bronchoscopy and exercise challenge test at Rainbow. She is the Consultant Pediatric Pulmonologist at Rainbow.
Pediatric Orthopaedics
Dr K.L. Narsimha Rao, After his post-graduation he has done fellowship in Pediatric Orthopaedics from Australia. He runs the Hip Clinic and Club Foot Clinic. He is Consultant Orthopaedician at Rainbow. He is a thorough gentleman and is appreciated by doctors and parents. (3rd Sunday of every month)
